Summer Solar Workshop

Event Details

DSC04116In the past, we’ve conquered interesting projects that harnessed the power of the sun for energy. From diving submarines, to drawing robots we’ve managed to make a lot of fun things driven by sustainable power.  However our next installment strives to delve a bit deeper into the fundamental elements of creating solar power, with the emphasis on making solar cells ourselves!  That’s right, we’ll be getting our hands dirty actually manufacturing cells that you can take home and then use on any other experiment that you want to tackle. There is a key skill in knowing how to make things, and if you refine that skill into a form that empowers you to provide the actual energy to make your projects stir to life, then you would be nigh unstoppable! (insert maniacal laughter here)

Each participant of the Summer Solar Workshop will receive a kit of materials including:

– A 3.5″x5.5″ ~6V, bare solar cell (spares available in case of accident, they are a bit fiddly)

-Wiring, and necessary assembly components.

-Instruction on the history of solar energy

-Guided build session.

This workshop is great for ages 8 and up, and will be held on August 18th, 2013 from 12pm to 3pm

The cost of this workshop is $25, including materials, and in case you would like to make multiples, the kits to make extra cells are $15. Please register via this link, spots are sure to fill up quick!
