Create Your Own SMART Mood Lighting!

Level Up Your Electronics Skills!

This intensive, two-hour workshop at the Reuseum is designed for young makers (ages 12+) who already have some experience with electronics or programming and are ready for their next project. Dive into the world of smart lighting and learn to control individually addressable RGB LEDs using the powerful ESP32 microcontroller.

What will you learn?

  • Electronics Fundamentals: Understand how to safely wire and power WS2812B addressable LED strips using an ESP32 microcontroller.
  • Programming: Learn the basics of programming the ESP32 to create custom color patterns and sequences (or use the popular, code-free WLED software).
  • Hands-On Building: Assemble and wire your very own edge-lit, laser-cut mood light to use as your project enclosure.
  • Bring it Home: Every participant will take home their functional, custom-programmed mood light project, ready to light up any room!

Why use an ESP32?

The ESP32 is a powerful, low-cost microcontroller with built-in Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, making it perfect for connecting your light project to a smartphone app or your home network for control.

  • Ages 12 and Up Only.
    • Due to the nature of the components and programming required, prior experience with basic electronics (like Arduino or Raspberry Pi) or block/text-based programming is strongly preferred to ensure a successful and engaging experience for all participants.
  • Location: 3131 W Chinden Blvd, Garden City
  • Duration: 2 Hours (10:00 AM – 12:00 PM)
  • Cost: $30 per participant
    • Materials: All materials, including the ESP32 development board, WS2812B LEDs, and laser-cut enclosure, are provided.
