Reuseum Educational has made its debut and things are working out quite well for our fledgling foundation. Some fine donations have made it beyond the recycling bin, however, and you will notice items in the Reuseum with green tags labeled ‘Re’, the proceeds from which will go directly towards funding the low to no cost workshops for schools, libraries, and general public that we frequently facilitate. We are very excited to show you what comes about when you recycle, and thanks to your consistent and generous support, we’ve been able to make some achievements that have always been milestones for us to make come true. So when you see that pile of tech that’s not being used, or just seems to take up space you would love to reclaim, please don’t hesitate to drop it off with us. We’ll not only make sure it never sees the landfill, but we’ll see it put to use for educating our community as to the myriad uses things might have before they are remade into raw goods.
I’m sure that in some way, all of these devices could be connected together productively, and an adventuring soul could take a stab at it and see what comes of it with our full blessing. I’m also positive that we’ve got the other half of its necessity to become functional tucked somewhere in our ever growing inventory. Do you have a mystery machine to build? You might want to come by and see what we’ve got.
With the addition of these new goods, we have most likely collected quite the comprehensive array of obsolete copmuting. Things like our NeXt computers, Galileo Mission Celestial Data Monitor (yeah, no joke) and the Osborne 1 we have on display are enough to compel any geek into an awed stupor… right before the conversation starts again covering what these systems used to do and how much they cost new of course. Be warned that these items are by no means the full list of relics that adorn our shelves every day. Come by and check us out!
We’ve been stacking our shelves tall for years now with all things interesting and worthy of use in your DIY building, experimentation, art and collections. Let’s make 2012 the year that the world ends as we know it, simply because it gets too good to compare with the past. We believe that you, our community are the creative force that will make it happen, and we will constantly work to be of value to you. Please don’t hesitate to come down and check out our little mecca of surplus!
Over the course of the last year, we’ve seen a drastic increase in your support of our efforts here at the store. Input from the community into our free recycling service has nearly tripled in 2011. While most of our inventory comes from our traditional surplussing methods, people have always been kind enough to donate and trade some really cool stuff too. This year we found ourselves finally able to attain the goal of creating a nonprofit that can not only facilitate our long list of workshops and classes, but also use your donations of electronics recycling and other goods to make the cost of those workshops more inexpensive or even free. Feel free to check out Reuseum Educational’s website, http://educate.reuseum.org
Next, but certainly not least is another community driven endeavor, it has been a long time in the making, but you can now say hello to the Treasure Valley’s first hackerspace, Open Lab Idaho. The members have been grinding though all of the things we need to accomplish in order to make our laboratory dreams come true, we are proud to announce the first general meeting, and charter of the founding membership at the Reuseum on January 14th, 2012. If you are interesting in sharing your skills and meeting other makers and builders of things, come down and lets make it happen!
As always, our new load of goodies has brought in some very charming items, some of which might actually fit under the Christmas tree. As for the rest, well, we can figure out a way to wrap our spare fire hoses into bows or something. We’ll figure it out.
