Expanded Lab Glass
Reuseum will be open extended hours, 10AM-7pm Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving. Considering our clientele and grassroots attitude as a whole, we figured that we should have some fun and over the holiday weekend and get away from the semi-ominous image a term like “Black Friday” gives (do we need to wear armbands or something?!). We’ll be having fun with our in store promotions at a level just as random as, well, our inventory. To start, we’ll be giving door prizes to the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 11th…(you get the pattern) people who enter our store. We have a dartboard that will be used for calculating storewide discounts by the hour. Things we will not have are a creepy animatronic Santa, holiday music (excepting spoofs) or decorations made out of stuff actually intended for decorations.
This season, we’ve brainstormed lots of awesome and inexpensive kits and projects, most of which you can make by recycling things you might have lying around the house. If you have a significant geek in your life, we also will be offering gift certificates for the holidays. Please don’t hestitate to come down this holiday season and see what fun is to be had here.
This December, the Reuseum will be hosting some open build nights in the theme of making things like gifts and decorations for the Holidays coming up. Saturday night, both on the 11th and 18th until 6p we’ll have our doors open to anyone that would like to collect and build stuff. We’ve got plenty of ideas for several small beginner’s electronics projects, lighting ideas and general insight into making stuff. If you would like to come down, feel free to bring your own project or you can grab any of the kits we’ve collected for the holidays. Worktables and some basic tools will be ready.
At Hack night, we will have the necessary components for several “Sparkle Balls” to be made and you may feel free to bring your own supplies as well. David has been making some interesting light circuits that might be fun to add in to the decorations. Things like multicolored blinking, or dimming can be added to make it a little livelier and engaging.
Go-Bots are a great starter project for kids and adults alike to begin to experiment with electronics. It involves upcycling an old pager into all of the parts necessary to create a bug sized robot. Kits are available in the Reuseum for Go-bots today and until we run out of pagers.
This winter we have begun stocking parts for open electronics projects, such as AVR microcontroller kits and breadboarding tools, art, craft, and vintage tech. so if you have a geek in the family you might direct him or her our way. Send the sheep to the fold, if you will.
If you have any questions, feel free to contact us via our contact form or info@reuseum.com.
Hope to see you at the Holiday Hack Nights Dec 11th and 18th!
Great for anyone who would like to get into building and creating electronic circuits. It came with some great books full of projects. Looks to be in mint condition, complete with an unopened hardware kit and its available for a steal.
LED Cube, by Ivan Sanchez from The Reuseum on Vimeo.
We stayed late at the shop on Saturday and a few builders collected and demo’d their projects. Its a good feeling to see people doing different things sharing a common ground (unforeseen pun) with their pastimes and interests. Ivan Sanchez has recently become aware of our store, and he came down to show off his inaugural project using the Arduino platform, a really cool 3D LED matrix.
Timelessness in the form of obsolete media. I was surprised to see many of the discs hadn’t been removed from their original packaging. There are about 200 total albums in the collection that was donated, and these are just some of the classic titles we have found. Now to find a working player that fits this format and movie nights are on! More pics to come of titles as we catalog them…
Holiday season is upon us, and as is our art here at the Reuseum, we are coming up with some fun and interesting kits and projects for the holidays (or whenever really) that are sure to entertain, illuminate the DIY ethic, and provide great motivation for re-use of common things at home in creative ways. For this holiday season we’ve been thinking of projects for everyone, from lights to fun learning, to craft activities. In this series of posts, we hope to show you some of our ideas of things to build. From lights and decorations to educational and hobby projects, we continue to find resource and reason to utilize our inventory of formerly obsolete things to fuel our mission. Below you will find our first project idea, and please continue to check back on us as we will be posting about everything we can make!
GO-Bots, a great, easy and inexpensive project that anyone can build. All you need is a pager and watch battery Since it only has one motor, it just… goes, hence, “go-bot”!
Throughout the holiday season, we will have the resources available to make Go-bots in kit form and with extras (like lights) they are still less than five bucks. So if you are curious or would like to build one, don’t hesitate to come down to the shop!
In December we’ll be having two after hours open houses, commonly called Hack Nights when we’ll have our worktables set up for mass creative carnage and holiday project building.
They’ll be December 11th & 18th, from the afternoon to 9:30, more information to come…
